Surprise on the trail

Yesterday we had to do some overdue maintenance on a geocache we had hidden on the Nature Trail at Kiwanis Beach in Standish. A geocacher who had visited the location in March told us that the plastic container was cracked and needed to be replaced. Since I had been meaning to replace our old containers with ammo boxes anyway (they stand up to the elements much better over the years and cost about the same as a large plastic container), I had one on hand. But when the girls and I went to the trail a few weeks ago, the snow was still really deep (and cared not to make a repeat performance of sinking in the snow in my boots) so we couldn't change the boxes then. So yesterday, even after so many days of warm temperatures, I was surprised to see there was still quite a bit of snow out on that trail. We did however make it to the cache location in our sneakers and replaced the box. I guess a warm rainfall is needed to melt away the last of the lingering snow... but I'm not wishing for that. We're having way too much fun on our bikes right now to give up a day for rain!
